Most people picture a date as one thing: soft, sweet and eaten straight from the box. At Palm Bites, dates go into a lot more than that. They turn up in our spicy snacks, our morning cup, our protein bars and even the sugar in our baking. Here are seven things on our shelves that start with a date. A few of them might surprise you.
1. Date Jerky
Yes, jerky. Our Date Jerky is made with Medjool dates and seasoned with bold flavours, so you get a chewy snack that is sweet and spicy at the same time. There are four to choose from:
- Tajin, with a tangy chili lime kick
- Chipotle Mango, smoky and fruity
- Sriracha, sweet heat with a touch of umami
- Peri Peri, zesty and slightly smoky
Every flavour is vegan, gluten free, palm oil free and has no added sugar. Each one comes in a 100g resealable pouch. Eat it straight, add it to a cheese board or toss a few pieces on a salad.
2. Date Seed Coffee
This might be the most surprising one. The seed inside the date, the part most people throw away, can be roasted and ground into a coffee alternative. Our Date Seed Coffee is made from the roasted seeds of Palestinian Medjool dates. It has no caffeine, no additives and no preservatives, and the flavour is smooth and full bodied with hints of caramel and an earthy finish.
If you like a little spice in your cup, try the Date Seed + Cardamom Coffee. It's a good pick for an evening cup when you want something warm without the caffeine.
3. Date Fuel Protein Bars
A lot of protein bars are dry and chalky. In our Date Fuel Protein Bars, dates keep the texture soft and chewy, so they eat more like a treat than a supplement. Each bar is packed with protein and fibre and made in Canada. Flavours include:
- Original, where the date flavour leads
- Double Chocolate, deep and cocoa rich
- Peanut Butter, with chocolate chips
- Strawberry, bright and fruity
4. Date Cookies
Our Date Cookies have a smooth date filling inside a buttery cookie, with a different topping on each flavour:
- Chocolate, topped with Fair Trade Belgian dark chocolate
- Pistachio, with pistachios and rose water
- Walnut, with blended walnuts
- Pecan Caramel, for the caramel lovers

5. Coconut Roll Dates
These are soft rolls of date, coated in shredded coconut and finished with a nut on top. Most are blended with a matching nut butter, and they're made and packaged in our facility in Mississauga. Choose from Almond, Cashew, Hazelnut or Walnut, or get all four in the Coconut Roll Dates Variety box. We recommend keeping them in the fridge.
6. Date Squares
Our Date Squares blend soft date with tahini, walnuts and sesame seeds. The Original keeps it simple, and the Chocolate version adds a coat of Fair Trade Belgian dark chocolate. Each pouch has three squares, which makes them an easy afternoon snack. Like the coconut rolls, they're best kept in the fridge.
7. Date Syrup and Date Sugar
Dates can also replace the sweetener in your kitchen.
100% Date Syrup is made from pure dates with no added sugar, no preservatives and no GMOs. Use it the way you would use maple syrup: on pancakes and waffles, as a dip for apple slices or blended into a smoothie. It comes in 140g and 280g sizes.
Organic Date Sugar is made from dates that are pitted, dried and finely ground. You can use it in place of refined sugar in many recipes, and it brings fibre along with the sweetness. It comes in a 380g resealable pouch.
